Macbook + iTouch = ?

Posted by: User Imagekaydee (Who am I?)  /  Category: laptop/computer

I was going to blog about something else entirely, but this just begs to be discussed. My first reaction when I saw this was, could it be a prank from Conan O’Brien’s “If They Mated” segment?

But it’s too pretty to be a prank.

Too pretty, in fact, to be reality either.

But it’s free to dream, so let’s still check it out shall we? I’m talking about the rumored “Macbook Touch” — a Macbook built to resemble the iTouch, with all its touchscreen capabilities.

I’m running out of words, so we might as well just quote MacDailyNews:

“Think MacBook screen, possibly a bit smaller, in glass with iPhone-like, but fuller-featured multi-touch. Gesture library. Full Mac OS X. This is why they bought P.A. Semi. Possibly with Immersion’s haptic tech. Slot-loading SuperDrive. Accelerometer. GPS. Pretty expensive to produce initially, but sold at “low” price that will reduce margins. Apple wants to move these babies. And move they will. This is some sick shit. App Store-compatible, able to run Mac apps, too. By October at the latest.”

If that’s not shocking then I don’t know what is.

iPhone … on Your Palm?

Posted by: User Imagekaydee (Who am I?)  /  Category: software

Yes, nearly everyone’s still madly in love with Apple’s latest baby, and even the most die-hard of Palm users are somehow seduced by the dark side.

But why chuck your beloved Palm handheld to the wind when you can get that iPhone coolness without buying one? Check out the TouchLauncher, a program that allows your Palm handheld to mimic the iPhone’s unique desktop. This app lets you drag and drop, finger scroll and add bookmarks to the screen, just like any iPhone would.

Check out the video after the jump to see how it works:

Office for Mac 2008 vs. iWork: It’s On!

Posted by: User Imagekaydee (Who am I?)  /  Category: software

First, count your blessings.

I’m very, very, very lucky to have access to two of the best work suites available to Mac users. First up, there’s iWork — Apple’s own suite that includes Numbers, Keynote and Pages. For many of the PC loyalists out there, Pages is Steve Jobs’ answer to MS Word; Numbers is Excel; and Keynote is Powerpoint.

Putting it like that, though, seems a little off. I’m not saying that they’re exactly alike. In fact, there are gazillions of differences between what iWork and Office for Mac 2008 can offer. I experienced both suites first hand, though, so I suppose I can give at least a brief comparison of the two. So, deep breath, and here goes.

I switched to Mac early this year. My baby, MacLovin, is not even a year old. I loved it immediately, and wanted nothing more to do with Windows-based applications. After all, Mac has everything, too. Almost all, of course, since some programs are still entrenched in Windows, but at the very least, my needs and some wants are covered.

However, since a lot of my clients are using Windows, I have no choice but to find a way to convert my documents. I downloaded Neo Office and it did do the trick, but I hated the interface. It was absolutely difficult to change the page set-up and settings just messed themselves up time and again.

So I finally found a way to get my hands on a copy of iWork and Office for Mac 2008, and promptly deleted my Neo Office installation.

Apple’s 3G iPhone Not in the Philippines Yet

Posted by: User Imagekaydee (Who am I?)  /  Category: cellphone

News from the Philippine Daily Inquirer yesterday noted that the new 3G iPhone from Apple will not yet be available in the Philippines. The global launch for this revamped iPhone was slated for July 11, but apparently, the Philippines isn’t included.

Globe Telecoms, Apple’s local “carrier” for the iPhone, has announced that this phone will be available later this year. No word yet on price and packages.

Dirty White Macbook? I’ve Got a Solution

Posted by: User Imagekaydee (Who am I?)  /  Category: laptop accessories

I’m completely, incurably obsessive-compulsive.

It’s not that I need everything extremely neat — or maybe I do. Anyway, I’m obsessed with keeping white things white, apart from keeping refrigerator doors closed, rubik cubes solved and charts perfect. It’s a disease.

Anyway, owning a pretty white Macbook has thrown my otherwise structured life into an abyss.

I keep fighting the urge to clean it every single minute, because every minute speck of dust just glares out like some challenger trying to drive me insane. I want to scrub it into a pristine state, but it would take constant cleaning and gloved hands to achieve that.

So what to do?
