Methinks This Will Lead to More Traffic Accidents

Posted by: User Imagekaydee (Who am I?)  /  Category: weird geeky stuff

I’m not so sure this is a good idea.

Sure, I’ve wished for a way to convey my road rage in a more techie manner before, but this might be taking it a bit far.

In a nutshell, the Drivemocion is a LED display you can stick on the back of your car.  Using a remote, convey your emotions to the driver behind you.  Choose from a smiley, a frown, a stern “back off!” and a rather hostilely extended middle finger.

Of course you can always just roll down your window and hurl invectives, but that wouldn’t be so geeky now would it?

Nobody Calls This Guy Yellow

Posted by: User Imagekaydee (Who am I?)  /  Category: weird geeky stuff

One of my biggest crushes while growing up was Marty McFly, aka Calvin, aka the legendary Michael J. Fox. Imagine my surprise when this turned up:

It’s the original prop, meaning Michael J. Fox’s body parts were once in contact with this thing. Obviously it doesn’t actually work, though you could have a friend string it up while you practice your balance and hope you don’t plummet to your death. I’d want one, only I can’t afford it. Bidding on eBay starts at $30,000.

I wonder how much the flux capacitor is.

Feed Your Bubble Wrap Addiction

Posted by: User Imagekaydee (Who am I?)  /  Category: weird geeky stuff

Now I don’t know about you, but for me, one of the best things about unwrapping a gadget (apart from the gadget, of course) is all the bubble wrap that comes with it. I can go on and on for hours, popping the bubble wrap continuously. Others may be annoyed by the sound, but not me. I sometimes keep the bubble wrap by my desk days after the gadget arrived.

As embarrassing as it may be to admit this, I sometimes spend more time with the bubble wrap than the gadget itself.  But it’s not everyday that you find a good piece of bubble wrap.  How do you feed your wanting hands then?

Bandai has a solution for you.  Puchi Puchi is Japan’s version of the bubble wrap, only it’s practically eternal.  You can just keep on popping and popping till you get tired of the activity yourself.  A keychain, Puchi Puchi bubble wrap-popping happiness can be yours for only $6.6.  Comes in pink, blue, black and white.

Domo Arigato, Mistress Roboto

Posted by: User Imagekaydee (Who am I?)  /  Category: weird geeky stuff

Having majored in Asian Studies, I pretty much had to read up on the highlights of literature throughout Asia.  That means I had to study Tang poems, haikus, obscure Egyptian novels — you name it, I pretty much read it.  Which was really good for me, considering my love for books and literature.

Still, nothing has prepared me for this latest offering from Japan: it’s Murasaki Shikibu 2.0.  Okay, so that “2.0″ bit is my own addition, but it does feel a bit that way.  In case you didn’t know, Murasaki Shikibu is believed to be (and credited as) the author of the classic Genji Monogatari (Tale of Genji) — a convoluted tale of love, intrigue, drama, politics and incest.  Nobody does it like the Japanese, I always say.

Anyway, for some reason, Kyoto University’s Robo-Garage has created a prototype of a Lady Murasaki robot.  This iron lady is designed to tell her tale while moving around gracefully in a pretty kimono.  It’s interesting in a “I don’t really need one and it’s nerdy but sort of cool so I think I want one” kind of way. After all, it’s literature and science combined, and how often do you see that happen?

Prank that Keyboard!

Posted by: User Imagekaydee (Who am I?)  /  Category: weird geeky stuff

There are days when life in the office really is hell on earth.

I’ve been with the same company for more than two years, and it does get staid sometimes. Don’t get me wrong; I love my job as a software geek and I totally love the people I work with. They’re the sort of people you like to hang out with day in and day out.

It’s the routine that gets me sometimes. There are days when the usual 9 to 5 gets a little to staid and boring for my liking; I just want a little spice to shake it up.

On days like that, you might want to try out these USB gadgets that are guaranteed to shake up things in the cubes a bit:

USB Capslocker. Accidentally hitting the caps lock key can be a pain; having someone rig it to constantly turn on and off at random intervals is genius. It even gets the LED to light up when the caps lock key is turned on.

Phantom Keystroker. Now this one’s really freaky. This is not for the faint of heart, so you might want to get a medical record of your intended victim before you plug this baby in. Once plugged into the USB port, it’ll send your keyboard haywire, typing random texts and even moving your mouse pointer a bit once or twice. It’ll definitely drive your officemates crazy, provided you can hold your laughter in long enough to ensure that haywire will ensue.

Just make sure you pick a USB port that’s hard to find. Otherwise, that’ll just take the fun out of the joke. Try it, but don’t blame me if you get kicked out of the company.

This is no Jedi Mind Trick

Posted by: User Imagekaydee (Who am I?)  /  Category: meme, weird geeky stuff

I’ve been meaning to post this weeks ago, but somehow other stuff keep coming up and I keep throwing this to the back burner. A serious geek offense, I know, but there were just so many new items that I though this old one would only make people nostalgic, not interested.

Personally, I found this cute because I saw it in Big Bang Theory, my television show du jour. In one episode, Leonard thinks that someone had broken into their apartment and thus emerges from his roomed armed with a light-saber. Technically, he’s using it as a flashlight of sorts, though the way he wields it shows that he’s ready to go Luke Skywalker on the enemy’s ass anytime. Interestingly enough, Leonard is using the green light-saber, which belongs to Yoda.

Licensed replicas can be yours. Visit Think Geek to get your own light-saber. The power down sound effect is so totally worth it.

[This post is dedicated to Zriz, who wants a light-saber of her own.]

Wait, I’m on my Hamburger Phone

Posted by: User Imagekaydee (Who am I?)  /  Category: desk accessories, weird geeky stuff

Or cheeseburger phone, if you want to be anal about it.

Technically speaking, Juno (played by Ellen Page) owns a cheeseburger phone — notice that sliver of cheese? Thought so. Anyway, ever since that movie came out, everyone has been going crazy over this phone. Where to find it?

My beloved FredFlare.Com has it.

Check this out for the details.

You might have to shake it a bit to get it to work, though. Remember?
