I’m kidding, of course, but Asus really is taking the trend a bit too far. Its EEEs actually played to the current obsession with colorful laptops, but these new PC901 and 1000H editions are just going a little too off the radar. Somewhere in Taiwan, an Asus engineer thinks to himself, “yes, girls will go crazy over these hot pink and neon lime editions”.
He may or may not be wrong.
After all, the marketing team did something quite intelligent: ship off the colorful new editions to Korea, where nothing is tacky enough to turn off screaming girls.
Back when cellphones were newfangled items, I went crazy over the array of casings available. You could have a pink phone one day and a blinged-out zebra print one the next. It was just … fun having all these colors and varieties to choose from.
Unfortunately, such an opportunity to display female fickle-mindedness comes rarely to other gadgets, such as laptops, for example. So we make do with colorful laptop sleeves, stickers, bags and other accessories available.
Now, though, Fujitsu Siemens unveils its Amilo Mini with interchangeable lids. We all know it’s an intelligent way to get us consumers to cough up a bit more dough, but it’s still fun. Check out the video to see how it works:
I was going to blog about something else entirely, but this just begs to be discussed. My first reaction when I saw this was, could it be a prank from Conan O’Brien’s “If They Mated” segment?
But it’s too pretty to be a prank.
Too pretty, in fact, to be reality either.
But it’s free to dream, so let’s still check it out shall we? I’m talking about the rumored “Macbook Touch” — a Macbook built to resemble the iTouch, with all its touchscreen capabilities.
I’m running out of words, so we might as well just quote MacDailyNews:
“Think MacBook screen, possibly a bit smaller, in glass with iPhone-like, but fuller-featured multi-touch. Gesture library. Full Mac OS X. This is why they bought P.A. Semi. Possibly with Immersion’s haptic tech. Slot-loading SuperDrive. Accelerometer. GPS. Pretty expensive to produce initially, but sold at “low” price that will reduce margins. Apple wants to move these babies. And move they will. This is some sick shit. App Store-compatible, able to run Mac apps, too. By October at the latest.”
