Smoke and Mirrors: In Win’s Allure Lacks Substance

Just because we like pink doesn’t mean we’ll snap up anything that looks hot and sexy. I think it’s about time manufacturers and designers learn that girls can be just as geeky — we don’t just go for the looks, we go for the brains. So we like pretty things — aesthetics and technology can be great bedfellows. You just need to find a way to get it done.
So why am I ranting?
In Win’s new desktop PC-case, dubbed the “Allure”, is practically a rehashed version of its more-than-$30-cheaper Alpha 360, retaining the latter’s preference for MicroATX motherboards and mini-tower size (14.25×7.5×18.5 inches).
The only thing different is its external case, which boasts of an intricate pseudo-Japanese flower pattern in a lovely lavender shade. The effect is striking on the pearly silver encasing, especially with the addition of tiny swarovski crystals that further enhance the case’s overall feminine appeal.
It also offers an aesthetically-pleasing front cover that keeps the optical drives and external bays hidden. Plus it has a more organized system that keeps cables from getting all tangled up. Unfortunately, ventilation isn’t so good and it doesn’t really offer anything substantial apart from its pretty exterior.
Maybe it’s about time these companies realize that we fashionable geeks aren’t just about style. We’re geeks before anything else; the prettiness just helps reel us in faster.
